
TABNAK, Sep, 01: Pezeshkian in a message to his Uzbek counterpart Shavkat Miromonovich Mirziyoyev expressed congratulations over Uzbekistan’s Independence Day, reiterating, “I believe that relations (between the two countries) based on mutual respect will be strengthened more that before. Expanding relations with neighboring and regional countries, especially with Uzbekistan is a diplomacy in the 14th administration’s foreign policy.”
Uzbekistan observes its Independence Day annually on September 1, honoring the nation's declaration of independence from the Soviet Union in 1991.
This significant day features official ceremonies, parades, and various cultural activities across the country. The independence of Uzbekistan marked the beginning of a new era, as the country embarked on its path to creating a contemporary, sovereign state following the dissolution of the Soviet Union.
Currently, the value of trade between the two countries is around 500 million dollars. The two sides have planned to increase it to US$1 billion.
Mid June 2023, Iran and Uzbekistan signed several memorandums of understanding in various fields including transportation, transit, investment, and insurance for expanding economic ties.
Also on September 22, 2023, Iran and Uzbekistan signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to expand cooperation in petrochemical industry.
