TABNAK, Sep, 03: Araqchi in a phone conversation with his Irish counterpart Micheál Martin said, "The Islamic Republic of Iran is after de-escalating tension in the region."

Benjamin Netanyahu and the Zionist regime seek to increase violence and spread it to other regions, including the occupied West Bank, he said, adding Tehran would support any ceasefire deal agreed by the Palestinians and the resistance movement Hamas.

Martin, for his part, expressed concern over escalation of tension in the region and said Ireland calls for the establishment of immediate ceasefire in Gaza, the exchange of captives and delivery of humanitarian aid to the Gazans.

He said it was imperative to avoid a “spiral of violence” into regional war, warning that it will serve no purpose and make achieving peace even harder.

A new round of ceasefire talks, mediated by Egypt, Qatar and the US, has recently been resumed in Cairo as the humanitarian situation in Gaza is further deteriorating, with malnutrition soaring and polio discovered in the Palestinian territory.

Israel has killed more than 40,780 Palestinians, mostly women and children, in Gaza since October 2023.
