
TABNAK, Sep, 08: This is Pezeshkian’s foreign trip since he took the office last month. He will be accompanied by a high-ranking delegation during the trip.
The Iranian president plans to meet with Iraqi officials and sign some security MoUs during the visit coming following an official invitation from Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shiaa al-Sudani.
On August 28, Iran’s Ambassador to Baghdad Mohammad Kazem Al-e-Sadeq announced President Pezeshkian’s visit.
Pezeshkian was sworn in as Iran’s ninth president on July 30, saying that his administration will work on a foreign policy that would ease tensions with the world. He also said that he would prioritize relations with neighboring countries as well as friendly nations that have supported Iran in difficult times.
According to Al-e-Sadegh, the visit of Iran's President to Iraq is taking place concerning the conditions and developments in the region and the issue of Gaza, as well as strengthening the relations between the two countries in various political, cultural, economic, and security fields.
The ambassador further noted, "Iraq is an important country in the region and special importance has been given to it in the foreign policy of Pezeshkian's government it because the Iranian President announced that neighboring countries are very important in his foreign policy."
Al-e-Sadegh added that Pezeshkian's trip to Iraq would end with the signing of memorandums of understanding, which are in line with the interests of the two countries.
