Riyadh to host Tehran-Rabat talks, Moroccan media says
Consultations between Morocco and Iran, with a view to resuming diplomatic relations severed since May 1, 2018, are continuing, a Moroccan media claimed.
TABNAK, Nov, 19 : “We learn that the capital of Saudi Arabia is hosting a new round of talks between security officials from the two countries, with the participation of Saudi and Emirati mediators,” Yabiladi news website reported.
Holding negotiations in Riyadh suggests that the Morocco-Iran dialogue is on the right track.
On Monday Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said, “Iran has always welcomed the improvement and expansion of relations with neighboring and Islamic countries. The history of our relationship is clear. We have not been the pioneers in cutting off relations and it is obvious that we are acting in line with the neighborhood policy to improve relations with countries based on honor, wisdom and expediency and the national interests of the country as well as the interests of our country.”
He made the remarks in response reports published about the meeting of the Iranian security representative with the Moroccan authorities in Rabat.
On May 1, 2018, Rabat cut off its relations with Iran, claiming Tehran's support for the Polisario Front through Lebanon's Hezbollah; A claim that Iran has rejected.
