Iran to complete certain projects on expanding Makran Coast by next 6 months, says Defense Minister

Iran’s Ministry of Defense plans would have completed some of its projects intended to develop Makran Coast by next Iranian calendar year (starting on March 22, 2025), said Defense Minister Brigadier General Aziz Nasirzadeh.

TABNAK, Sep, 03: The project includes Makran Petrochemical Town, exports terminals for chemical products, dual-purpose desalination plant, hydroelectric plants underway in Makran area (located in Chabahar County, Sistan and Baluchistan Province) by the Ministry of defense.

Alongside the development of the Makran Coast and advancing sustainable sea-based economy, 27 new coastal settlements will be developed of which two new towns include the new town of the Persian Gulf and the 'New Makran'.

Iran' New Towns Development Company has started the construction of two new coastal towns in two of these 27 sites on the southern coast of Hormozgan Province named the new town of the Persian Gulf and the 'New Makran'.

Iran has recently constructed significant nautical and commercial infrastructure in a number of Makran districts, particularly at Chabahar port, which serves as a vital trade route between the Indian Ocean and landlocked nations in Central Asia.

Back in August 2023, Secretary of Makran Coast Development Council said developing the cost line requires three years of work and nine billion dollars of investment.
