TABNAK, Oct, 06: During the 82nd Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC) session held at IMO Headquarters in London and was running from September 30 to 4 October, 2024, Kolivand taking part in the session Pouriya Koulivand, reiterated that Iran abides by all of its commitments regarding the Red Sea, but the US support for Zionist regime has triggered insecurity in the area.
A protest statement from the Islamic Republic of Iran was also read out at the session about the late issuing of visas for the Iranian delegation by the British government.
Koulivand, deputy of Iranian permanent representative took part in the session and his remarks came after a few countries raised US-planned allegations against Iran about the Red Sea.
The MEPC 82 discussed a range of environmental matters, including proposed mid-term measures for the reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from ships, enhancing energy efficiency of shipping, tackling marine litter, ballast water management and underwater noise reduction.
The US has already raised unfounded allegations against Iran about the Red Sea following Yemeni Resistance attack on ships heading to Zionist regime.
However, the allegations come whereas the US and the West’s involvement in genocide in Gaza Strip and destruction of Gaza’s eco-environment have raised serious concerns.
Western media have already raised similar allegations about the Red Sea ecosystem following Yemeni resistance attack on MV Sounion tanker, claiming that the Iran-supported resistance group aims at destroying the industry of fishing and regional eco-system.
Despite the allegations, it has been a year since the West and US have been involved in Israeli genocide and killing in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon.
