TABNAK, Oct, 09:  “Any 1KW solar power plant generates 1800 KW/H electricity annually. Iran plans to add to the number of its renewable units by late March,” he said.

Ali-Abadi further expressed hope that Iran could increase its power generation capacity by 6.000 MW by the next 2 years.

Iran had generated more than 367.1 terawatts/hour of electricity in 2022.

The growth of Iran’s generation of electricity in 2023 was nearly twice that of the average growth of the generation of electricity in the world.

According to a report “Statistical Review of the Global Energy” published in June, the total generation of electricity worldwide in 2023 was more than 29,924 terawatts/hours, which was 2.5 percent higher than a year earlier.

Iran’s generation of electricity in 2023 exceeded that of industrialized countries like the UK, Italy, and Spain as well as Turkey, Algeria, Egypt, Indonesia, Pakistan and Thailand, the report added.

In February, data released by Iran Grid Management Company (IGMC) showed the nominal capacity of Iran’s power plants reached 92,055 megawatts (MW).

As reported, the capacity of the country's gas power plants, which account for 25.3 percent of the country's total power generation capacity, also increased by 3.1 percent to 23,330 MW in the current year.

Most of Iran’s power generation capacity is supplied by thermal power plants. Currently, combined cycle power plants account for the biggest share of the country’s total power generation capacity followed by gas power plants.

The total capacity of the country’s thermal power plants stands at over 72,000 MW, according to the Thermal Power Plant Holding (TPPH).
