President Masoud Pezeshkian has issued a decree removing Shahram Dabiri from his position as the vice president for parliamentary affairs because of his costly trip to the South Pole during the Persian New Year (Nowruz) holidays.

In his statement to Dabiri, Pezeshkian explained on Saturday that after reviewing a report on Dabiri's trip, the president decided to terminate Dabiri’s position.

He also said that, considering the people's economic struggles, even personal expenditures on such extravagant travel are “not defendable and justifiable”, especially given the minimalist lifestyle expected of Iranian officials.
