TABNAK, Feb 03: In a meeting with Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan Hikmet Hajiyev in Tehran, Ahmadian said the two countries are duty-bound to improve mutual relations and remove obstacles in this regard.

He urged the two countries’ authorities not to allow enemies to harm Tehran-Baku cordial ties.

Iran’s top security official reiterated Tehran’s commitment to implement the agreements previously signed between the two countries.

Hajiyev, for his part, said Azerbaijan regards itself as a friend of Iran and hailed the two countries developing relations.

He added that Baku remains committed to strengthening ties with Tehran, emphasizing that no foreign country can disrupt mutual relations.

Also on Sunday, the Iranian foreign minister and the Azerbaijani presidential assistant discussed ways to improve mutual relations.

Abbas Araghchi and Hajiyev held a meeting in Tehran.

In a meeting on Saturday, Hajiyev and Political Advisor to Iran's President Mahdi Sanaei emphasized the importance of increasing economic exchanges between the two countries.

In a post on his social media account, Sanaei said in his lengthy meeting with the Azerbaijani official, the sides discussed various topics concerning mutual relations.

Both sides emphasized the friendship and brotherhood between the two countries, the movement towards resolving some misunderstandings, the expansion of comprehensive political relations, and the increase of economic and people-to-people exchanges, Sanaei added.

Azerbaijan’s relations with Iran were strained in January 2023 following an attack on the country’s embassy in Tehran, which prompted Baku to close the mission and evacuate staff over what it called a “terrorist act.”

An initial Iranian investigation found that the attack was motivated by “personal and family-related issues.”

In July 2024, Azerbaijan reopened its embassy in Tehran after more than a year of successful negotiations between the two neighbors toward easing the tensions.
