Iran denounces US inappropriate treatment with nationals, expelling them to Panama

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmail Baghaei, called the US government's ‘inappropriate and humiliating treatment’ of immigrants, including some Iranian nationals, ‘unjustified’ and contrary to human rights standards.

TABNAK, Feb 15: He referred to the importance of observing international norms regarding the treatment of immigrants, saying ‘harsh and inhuman treatment’ with Iranian nationals are unacceptable.

 

Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, based on its legal duties, will not spare any effort to protect the rights of Iranian nationals, and accordingly, appropriate instructions have been issued to the Iranian Interests Protection Office in Washington and other Iranian diplomatic and consular missions in South America for any assistance to compatriots expelled from the United States, he said.

 

"Iran is the homeland of all Iranians, and our compatriots can freely return to their homeland and travel," Baghaei stated.

 

He made the remarks after a video of Iranian refugees expelled from United States and were sent to Panama on US military plane went viral.

These people are the first victims of US President Donald Trump’s plan to expel refugees.

The first flight carrying migrants from Iran, Afghanistan, China, India, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Turkey, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam arrived in Panama on Wednesday. 

During a weekly press conference on Thursday, Panamanian President José Raúl Mulino confirmed the arrival of 119 individuals from various nationalities. “Yesterday a flight from the United States Air Force arrived with 119 people from diverse nationalities of the world,” Mulino said.
