TABNAK, Feb 15: His remarks came after Syrian politician who serves as the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates in the Syrian Transitional Government Asaad Hassan al-Shaibani has recently spoken of exchanging messages with Iran.
“Our view of the developments in Syria and the restoration of relations with Damascus is a look to the future,” Sheibani said.
“We are monitoring developments in Syria and will make our own decision in an appropriate time.”
“All Syrian political spectrums must participate in determining their own destiny,” Sheibani noted.
“The positions of the Islamic Republic of Iran regarding the developments in Damascus are clear. Given the special position that the country of Syria has in the Middle East region, we believe that its future and destiny should be determined by the people of this country and that all political currents of this country should participate in this matter.”
Since the fall of Bashar al-Assad's government in December 2024, recent developments in Syria have heightened uncertainties about the country's political future.
Syria’s de facto foreign minister said on Wednesday that his country had received positive messages but wanted further reassurance from Russia and Iran.
“There are positive messages, but we want these positive messages to turn into a clear policy that makes the Syrian people feel reassured,” Shibani said at the World Government Summit 2025 in Dubai.
