TABNAK, Jan 31: “Trump has announced in private circles that one of his intended programs is to reopen American embassy in Iran and he is willing to register this historic event under his name,” he said.
Trump believes that his new policy towards Iran will make so many surprised and happy, the reporter said.
On November 4, 1979, Iranian students seized the embassy and detained more than 50 Americans, ranging from the Chargé d'Affaires to the most junior members of the staff, as hostages. The Iranians held the American diplomats hostage for 444 days. Since then Switzerland is serving as US Interests Section in Iran.
News reports say that Trump is using a softer approach towards Iran since taking office on January 20.
He had expressed interests in reopening diplomatic channels with Iran and resolving the nuclear issue without Israel’s threats on military strike against Iran, the reports claim affirming, he now plans to deal with Iran’s nuclear program diplomatically not militarily.
He had also expressed hope that Iran would make a deal.
Previously, Iran's vice president for strategic affairs Mohammad Javad Zarif expressed hope that Trump would adopt a more serious and realistic approach towards Iran, referring to his unilateral decision to withdraw from 2015 nuclear deal in 2018 and his controversial maximum pressures against the country which involved more sanctions on Iran.
