The Gulf crisis and the blockade imposed on Qatar has "posed a major existential threat” to the GCC, a spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry said.
He said the Gulf Co-operation Council, comprising six Arabian Gulf countries, would soon face "fundamental and important changes” and the troubles among the GCC member states are "old and accumulated”.
Al Jazeera.net Arabic yesterday quoted Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qasimi as saying that the future would reveal important aspects of the GCC crisis, which are still unclear after some GCC states decided to impose a siege on Qatar.
During his weekly press briefing in Tehran, he criticised Saudi Arabia’s policy in the region saying Saudi officials were trying to create an imaginary enemy to cover their internal and regional troubles. "However, they have not succeeded in this.”
Qasimi called upon Riyadh to adopt realism and moderation in its dealings and daily conduct and not live "in the field of media and fantasy”.
"Granting Saudi nationality to a robot was aimed at beautifying the ugly face of Saudi Arabia’s policies; it would be advisable for Saudi Arabia to grant its citizens their rights instead of granting nationality to a robot.” He said an agreement has been primarily reached between Iran and Saudi Arabia to exchange diplomats, stressing that no clear and defined date has been set for this.
The Swiss government has approved an agreement between Iran and Saudi Arabia that provides for the Swiss embassy in Riyadh to take care of the Iranian interests in Saudi Arabia and the Swiss embassy in Tehran likewise look after the Saudi interests in Iran.
