Donald Trump praises Jared Kushner as a 'good boy' while thanking WSJ for editorial

Donald Trump referred to his son-in-law and senior adviser Jared Kushner as a "good boy" as he praised the Wall Street Journal for a positive editorial about him.

The president held an interview with the newspaper's editor in the Oval Office last week, shortly after Mr Kushner met with congressional panels investigating Russian election interference.

An editorial in the paper had praised Mr Kushner for his disclosure of his contacts with Russians and other foreigners.
 

"You did a good job. He’s a good – he’s a good boy,” Mr Trump told the editor-in-chief Gerard Baker, according to a  transcript of the exchange that was published by Politico.

"They wrote a very nice editorial, so very good,” echoed Ivanka Trump, who stopped by the Oval Office during the interview.

Baker thanked them for their praise, but also noted that his "colleagues write those”.

"You did a good job," the president repeated.

"Yeah, you really did," Mrs Trump added.

"Thanks, honey. Stay around if you want," Mr Trump told his daughter.

Baker told Mrs Trump: "It was nice to see you out in Southampton a couple weeks ago,” an apparent reference to a party thrown by Washington Post heiress Lally Weymouth.

The pair also chatted about their daughters, both named Arabella.
