Tabnak – As ISIS’ days are now numbered in Syria after its heavy defeats by the Syrian government, Iranian officials hail Syria’s victory over terrorism and extremism. Iranian president and the commander of Iran’s Quds force were among those who took positions in this regard.

According to IRNA, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said on Tuesday that the foundation of ISIS terrorist group, being fed by great powers and certain regional states, is uprooted today.

"While people in the region have made great achievements, FMs of a threadbare, archaic, ineffective and spiritless system called the Arab League come together to regret a single missile targeted Riyadh for its 2.5 years atrocities against the Yemeni people,” Rouhani said.

Asking "Where was the Arab League when ISIS beheaded people of the Syrian cities of Aleppo and Deir-Ezzor?” he added that "it's regrettable that those who name themselves Muslims and Arabs convene in order to express unnecessary concern over a crushing response from the oppressed Yemenis to the Riyadh's repeated aggression.”

Iranian President further noted that "we had never imagined that such brutal criminals supported by big Western and American powers and especially by the occupying Zionists could commit so many crimes in the 21st Century.”

Earlier on Tuesday, senior Iranian commander Major General Qassem Soleimani announced that the self-proclaimed caliphate of ISIS has formally collapsed in Islamic territories after recapture of its last stronghold in Syria’s Albu Kamal.

In a message to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei on Tuesday morning, commander of Iran’s Quds Force Major General Soleimani declared that the notorious group’s rule has come to an end with the accomplishment of a mission to liberate Syria’s eastern city of Albu Kamal, near the Iraqi border.

Speaking on behalf of all commanders and forces fighting against terrorism, thousands of Iranian, Iraqi, Syrian, Lebanese, Afghan, and Pakistani martyrs and those handicapped in defending the life and dignity of Muslims and their sanctities, the top general congratulated Ayatollah Khamenei, the Iranian nation, the people of Iraq and Syria, and all Muslims on the fall of ISIS.

Enumerating the heinous crimes ISIS has committed in Syria and Iraq, General Soleimani said initial reports estimate that the damage caused by the terrorist group is at least $500 billion.

It should be noted that on November 19, ISIS terrorists were flushed out of their last stronghold in Syria’s Albu Kamal. Liberation of the city marked an end to the group’s self-proclaimed caliphate it had declared in 2014. ISIS militants made swift advances in northern and western Iraq over the summer of 2014, after capturing large areas of Syria.

But the timely support by Iran helped Syria and Iraq fight off ISIS. In addition, formation of military units by volunteers in Iraq, known as Hashd al-Shaabi or Popular Mobilization Units, blunted the edge of ISIS offensive and later made the terror group withdraw from much of the territories it had occupied.
