Tabnak – After the allegations made by the western countries about the use of chemical weapons by the Syrian government and also a fresh Israeli airstrike against a Syrian airbase, the situation in the war-torn country is becoming even more complex. Iranian officials clarify the country’s position regarding the recent developments.
Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif believes that claims of a chemical attack by the Syrian government and threats of a military response to the alleged incident are yet another attempt by the US and its allies to boost the morale of terror groups, which are taking heavy blows on the battlefield in the Arab state.
Also Asked about Israel’s recent missile attack on a Syrian air base, the top Iranian diplomat said it was not unprecedented. “Whenever the terrorists face defeats, the Zionist regime launches operations and so do the Americans,” he added.
“The situation of US-backed terrorists is Syria is not good and every day they are suffering new blows. The Zionist regime and the US have in different stages rushed to the scene to boost the morale of terrorists," he said.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Zarif warned of the repercussions of the “dangerous” policies adopted by Washington and Tel Aviv in the region, among them the relocation of Daesh terrorists.
The Iranian minister described the terrorists as a highly dangerous American “investment,” saying, “There is authentic intelligence that the US is relocating the Daesh terrorists” to use them in different regions.
Meanwhile, Iranian foreign ministry spokesman strongly condemned the Israeli regime's attack on an air base in the Syrian province of Homs, saying it was a blatant violation of international law which would strengthen terrorists.
"The Israeli regime's aggression against Syria is a breach of this country's national sovereignty and territorial integrity and runs counter to all international regulations and principles," Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi said on Monday.
The Iranian spokesperson further emphasized that while the Syrian government has the upper hand on the battlefield, the Israeli regime carried out the air strike to strengthen terrorist groups and distract public opinion from the ongoing deadly Israeli attacks against the Gaza Strip, where over 30 Palestinians have been killed in recent days.
"The Islamic Republic of Iran once again reiterated its full support for Syria's territorial integrity and national sovereignty as well as its people," Qassemi said.
In the pre-dawn hours Monday, Israeli F-15 warplanes carried out strikes via Lebanese air space on T-4 air base in Syria's Homs Province, killing and wounding several people.
On the other hand, US President Trump has warned that Russia, Iran and Syria will have a “big price to pay” following a suspected chemical attack in Syria’s eastern Ghouta, saying his administration will soon be making “some major decisions” on Syria.
