Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said that OIC member states should cooperate with the international community and particularly with the UN Security Council to address the actions of the Israeli authorities as for Al-Aqsa mosque.

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation’s (OIC) member states should cooperate with the international community and particularly with the UN Security Council (UNSC) in order to address the actions of the Israeli authorities as for Al-Aqsa mosque, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said.

On Tuesday, the OIC Executive Committee held an extraordinary meeting in Istanbul upon Turkey's request to discuss the recent situation at Jerusalem's Temple Mount at the level of foreign ministers.

"We need to engage with one voice with the international community, particularly the Security Council, to put an end to the culture of impunity for the Israeli regime and compel it to cease and reverse its criminal policies and practices," Zarif said Tuesday, as quoted by the Tasnim news agency.

Zarif also condemned the actions of the Israeli authorities during the recent tensions in Jerusalem and called the other member states of the OIC to unite in order to resolve the long-standing tensions between the Israeli and Palestinian authorities over the holy sites.

Since mid-July, the tensions between Israel and the Palestinians have escalated in Jerusalem and the West Bank. This situation emerged after Israel's move aimed at introduction of additional security measures at the entrances to the Temple Mount, where Al-Aqsa mosque, the third holiest site in Islam, is located, in response to a deadly incident that occurred on July 14. In an effort to alleviate the tensions, Israeli authorities weakened the measures. However, local media reported on Friday that men under 50 years of age were barred from entering the Temple Mount.
