We are a group of concerned citizens from various UN member countries. We are witnessing with a great concern and dismay the international community's silence towards the barbaric repression of the Bahraini regime in response to the peaceful pro-democracy movement launched five months ago by the Bahraini oppressed people.
The despotic regime took the decision to smash this peaceful democratic uprising for equal rights and socio-economic justice. Covered by the silence, and sometimes the complicity, of the major western superpowers and certainly the apathy the UN, the Bahraini dictatorial regime, deaf to its own people's call for basic human rights and civil liberties, has taken the unprecedented move to invite a foreign army to help do the dirty job.
The result was thousands of deaths, injuries, arrests, tortures, intimidations, layoffs and persistent arbitrary punishment against the Bahraini population. Scores of peaceful dissidents who have led or participated in this uprising have been sentenced to death or to life terms, and other awfully harsh verdicts.
Today, we demonstrate to show our support for the - forgotten by the West - Bahraini oppressed majority population, and to demand that the UN condemn in the strongest terms the Bahraini regime as well as the Saudi kingdom for having taken an active part in this ongoing sectarian cleansing, and do all in its power to stop it. Today, we demonstrate for human rights and democracy in Bahrain!
In addition, a list of specific demands I can think of is as follows:
- Immediate, open condemnation of the regime's human rights violations
- Immediate, open condemnation of the destruction of places of worship
- Immediate, open condemnation and international prosecution, to the fullest extent of the law, of those law enforcement officials involved in the torture of peaceful protesters
- Immediate, open condemnation of the arrest and sentencing of doctors and medical experts for treating injured peacful protestors
- Immediate, open condemnation of the prevention of rights of injured peaceful protesters to be treated in clinics and hospitals
- Immediate, open condemnation of the prevention of the national and international media and media correspondents to accurately cover events.
- Immediate, open demand for complete democratic reforms with free and fair elections to replace the totalitarian and dictatorial regime.
