In spite of her bitter loss to Donald Trump during the last presidential election, Hillary Clinton may be open to the possibility of another bid for the Oval Office, according to a CNN report.
“Clinton is telling people that she’s not closing the doors to the idea of running in 2020,” CNN White House correspondent Jeff Zeleny said. “I’m told by three people that as recently as this week, she was telling people that look, given all this news from the indictments, particularly the Roger Stone indictment, she talked to several people, saying ‘look, I’m not closing the doors to this.’”
Stone, Trump’s long-time advisor, was arrested by the FBI last week in connection with Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation of Russian meddling into the 2016 presidential election; he was charged with lying to Congress about the Trump campaign’s attempts to use stolen emails to undermine Clinton’s bid for the presidency.
But in spite of Clinton’s reported willingness to consider a 2020 run, Zeleny notes that the information he received “does not mean that there’s a campaign-in-waiting, or a plan in the works.” In fact, one Clinton friend said, “it would surprise me greatly if she actually did it.”
Last October, Clinton acknowledged in an interview that she would “like to be president.” But when asked if she would actually want to run for the position again, she quickly replied “No.”
