TABNAK, Sep, 10: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said selecting Iraq as a first destination for foreign visit by President Masoud Pezeshkian show the depth of friendly ties between the two countries.
“Iraq is beyond a neighbor for Iran. Iraq is our brother and friend. We have much in common,” he said in an interview with Iraqi al-Forat TV.
Araqchi said Iranian President’s visit to Iraq scheduled for Wednesday includes cities of Baghdad, Basra, Erbil as well as Najaf and Karbala.
Iranian foreign minister further said Iran is content with measures taken by Iraq (referring to Iran-Iraq security agreement) regarding groups targeting Iran from Iraqi soil, adding the two countries are continuing consultations for better implementation of the deal signed in 2021.
“Iraqi security and stability are Iran’s security and stability, and Zionist regime is our common enemy,” he noted.
