Neighbours can help Afghanistan resolve its problems, Iran says, stressing a more active role for the UN in promoting national reconciliation in the war-hit country.

Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Abbas Araqchi made the remarks at a meeting with UN Secretary General's Special Representative for Afghanistan Tadamichi Yamamoto.

According to IRNA, the UN secretary-general spoke about the latest attempts by the global fraternity to push the national reconciliation process in Afghanistan.

At the meeting in Tehran, the news agency said, Yamamoto underlined the imperative international collaboration to speed up the Afghan peace drive.

Yamamoto, who also met Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, called for rallying greater support for the peace process, saying stability in Afghanistan would benefit the region.
