Iran will only accept dialogue with the United States on the basis of respect for sovereignty and the withdrawal of the threatening language, according to a press release from the Foreign Ministry.

Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qasemi said that negotiations would be possible if Washington starts speaking with respect for the Iranian nation, a great and ancient civilization, and stops threats and sanctions.

The press release, published on the Foreign Ministry's website, responds to statements by U.S. President Donald Trump about his hope that Tehran agrees to talk with Washington on a better nuclear deal.

On May 8, Trump said that the United States had withdrawal from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPO) or nuclear deal signed in 2015 between Iran and six powers (Russia, United States, United Kingdom, China, France and Germany).

Trump claims that Iran is developing nuclear weapons, although experts with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the rest of the JCPO signatories assure otherwise.
