The United States is likely to soon present a timeline to North Korea with specific requests for denuclearization.
Reuters on Monday quoted a senior U.S. defense official as saying that Washington will present specific asks and a timeline with its concept of what implementation of the U.S.-North Korea summit agreement looks like.
The official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, made the remark to a small group of reporters ahead of a trip to Asia this week by Defense Secretary Jim Mattis.
The official hinted that the timeline “would be rapid enough to make clear Pyongyang’s level of commitment.”
He then added that the U.S. will know pretty soon if the North is "going to operate in good faith or not.”
Mattis is scheduled to visit China on Tuesday for three days before heading to South Korea and then Japan on Friday.
